Reflection - Refresh - Refocus

At the beginning of December 2023 I finished editing one of my favourite images of 2023 captured when in Florida and duly uploaded it on to my social media accounts. I didn’t however, upload it onto my website, as I had been contemplating the need to freshen up my site as it was coming up on 2 years since it was launched and in that time very little had changed in terms of its design. When I took the decision to create the original site, the driving ethos was to curate my work in a place where visitors could hopefully see my images in better detail and not be constrained by the image quality limitations of social media. I also wanted over the course of time to also create spaces where I could share my approaches to processing my images and discuss aspects of my photography experiences.

Looking back over the last 2 years, my image collections have been filling up, unsurprisingly the Architecture collection being the most populated followed very closely by the Black and White collection. I initially considered limiting my collections to a set number of images per collection page, but I quickly rescinded that idea as I thought, why restrict my work, why not share it on a broader scale and use the website as a record of my photography journey. Until I’m constrained by technical limitations of the website host (in this case Squarespace), it will be my intention to continue uploading most of my work onto my website.

With the focus being on my images over the last 2 years, the two other main areas of my website have not had the same attention, these being this blog section and also my learning resource section. I did initially get these populated with some content but I will admit they fell behind as travelling about a lot more provided more scope to capture images which in turn commanded the majority of my time as I was keen to process the fruits of my labour. It is still my aspiration going forward, to add more content to the learning resource section of my website and to reflect more on my photography journey through the blog section. Just like the old saying about waiting for one bus, then eventually two come along, a second blog will be published alongside this one which will discuss what I have learned over the past 5 weeks in redesigning my website.

With the redesign now complete and live, I am looking forward to getting back into the image archive and begin processing again whilst getting back out there with the camera too as December was probably my quietest month for a long time in terms of hitting the shutter button. It was however a productive month and although the grey matter was technically challenged at times, I am happy that I got there in the end, despite the old devil of procrastination visiting me from time to time.
